Mr. Dwight Luckett has over 20 years of experience in education. Prior to becoming Superintendent, he served as the School Improvement Coordinator for the Canton Public School District. A year later, he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent. Prior to coming to the District, he served three years as the Principal of East Side High School in Cleveland, Mississippi. During his tenure, his innovative leadership brought the low performing school to a highly successful performing school. He also improved school safety, enhanced the learning environment, and restored community pride by focusing on academics. Mr. Luckett has received many awards from community leaders and civic organizations praising his hard work. Prior to this, Mr. Luckett served as Assistant Principal at Velma Jackson Magnet High School in Camden, Mississippi. He also served twelve years as a teacher and eight years as a varsity basketball coach. He taught World History, American Government, Mississippi Studies, Geography, Minority Studies, Sociology, and Psychology.

 

  • Mr. Luckett received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Saint Edwards University in Austin, Texas (1980).
  • Mr. Luckett completed his Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Delta State University in Cleveland, MS (2000).
  • Mr. Luckett completed his Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Supervision and Administration from Delta State University in Cleveland, MS (2006).
  • He has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Madison County Medical Center/Nursing Home (2000-2002).
  • He completed Delta State University Nissan’s Superintendent’ Academy (2003).
  • Mr. Luckett served as a Clinical Faculty Member in the Educational Leadership Department at Delta State University (2004-06).
  • He served on the Mississippi State Department of Education Superintendent’s Principal Advisory Committee (2002-2004)
  • Mr. Luckett was also one of four people selected by the Mississippi Department of Education to score the School Leaders Licensure Assessment for the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey (2004).
  • Mr. Luckett is married to the former Beverly Thomas.
  • He has three children Jeremy, Amber, and Dwight Jr.
MISSION

The mission of the Canton Public School District, with full participation of parents and the total community, is to enable all students to become analytical thinkers, self-directed lifelong learners and effective communicators who are prepared to continue their education and /or to enter the global workplace and to participate in society as responsible citizens.
