CSAS services are modeled from schools in St. Louis, MO and Falls Church, Virginia. These are some of the best multiple intelligences and arts and sciences schools in the nation. There are no other schools with this design or concept in the State of Mississippi.
Academic services are offered through a multiple intelligences environment (activities). In addition to implementing the new instructional frameworks, the school offers hands-on demonstration projects through math exploration and science discovery labs, visual and performing arts and research experiences. This will help students master more challenging academic content and help them become independent learners.
Examples are: In the Math Exploration and Science Discovery Labs, the students will have 80 minute block schedules. The students will have 50 minutes of instruction on specific skills then go to nearby labs and receive 30 minutes of hands-on experiences on those skills. There is a unique outdoor classroom (aquarium and oasis) located within the math and science building.
In the visual and performing arts, the school offers elements of art and music, art expression, and listening to, understanding, and performing through music. There is an art classroom, space for art expression and an exhibition gallery. In addition to performing in the multipurpose building, there is a small amphitheatre for presentations like puppet shows, lecture, dance, or dramatics.
In research, students will be given projects to complete by use of technologies in the library (by internet and print) and in the classroom. The school has a 30-unit wireless lab to offer virtual trips around the world. Our computer lab will offer tutorial skills and practices in keyboarding.
