Canton Public School District
(No Child Left Behind Act of 2001)
The Canton Public School District has worked hard to increase student achievement. Over the last several years it has made undeniable, continuous progress. As a result, this year the Mississippi Department of Education has rated three of the district’s schools “Successful”. Canton Elementary went from “Academic Watch” to “Successful”. Canton School of Arts & Sciences went from “Low Performing” to “Successful”. Nichols Middle School met growth and maintained its “Successful” rating. However, Canton High School did not meet growth; it now has a “Low Performing” label. As a result, the district was rated “Low Performing”.
According to the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2003 (NCLB), parents have the right to receive detailed information related to the schools’ and district’s progress in a number of areas, including academics, graduation, and attendance. This information is contained in the NCLB Report Card. The NCLB Report Card for the Canton Public School District is posted on the Mississippi Department of Education’s webpage and can be accessed at http://orsap.mde.k12.ms.us/MAARS/index.jsp.
