Canton Public School District
The Canton Public School District has worked hard to increase student achievement. Over the last several years it has made undeniable, continuous progress. As a result, this year the Mississippi Department of Education has rated three of the district’s schools “C” which are Canton Elementary School, Reuben B. Myers’ School of Art and Science and Nichols Middle School. All three schools met growth. However, Canton High School did not meet growth; it now has an “F” label. As a result, the district was rated a “D”.
According to the federal Elementary Secondary Education Act (ESEA)or commonly known as NCLB, parents have the right to receive detailed information related to the schools’ and district’s progress in a number of areas, including academics, graduation, and attendance. This information is contained in the NCLB Report Card. The NCLB Report Card for the Canton Public School District is posted on the Mississippi Department of Education’s webpage and can be accessed at http://reports.mde.k12.ms.us/data.
