Advance Placement Class

Dual Enrollment Courses

Canton Public School District has partnered with Holmes Community College to allow eligible students to enroll as students at Holmes while still enrolled at Canton High School. Eligible students take college-level courses free of charge to the student. Students who do not pass courses in which they are enrolled shall reimburse the district for a portion of the cost of the course.

Eligibility

  • Students must be classified as a junior or senior.
  • Students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale for high school work completed.
  • Students must receive a recommendation from Canton High School’s principal.

Interested students should contact their guidance counselor at the end of their sophomore year for consideration.

Honors and Advanced Placement Courses

Online Advanced Electives in Grades 7-9

Students who take advanced elective courses online must be disciplined, self-motivated, and have excellent study habits. Students must meet the following criterion:

  • Recommendation from the principal, assistant principal, and/or counselor

Advanced Placement (AP) Courses in Grades 10-12

Students enrolled in these fast-paced courses read high complexity texts, demonstrate advanced comprehension skills, and solve highly technical problems. Students’ MAAP and ACT scores, academic course averages, and teacher recommendations will be strongly considered in determining students’ eligibility for AP courses.
