Welcome to the Office of Federal Programs

The Canton Public School District’s Office of Federal Programs consists of several different areas and offers many services and support to CPSD staff, students, parents and community. Our office offers leadership and technical assistance through the responsible and effective use of federal dollars to supplement and support educational opportunities in all grades. We are currently in the process of revising and breathing new life into our existing programs and services. One of the major areas of focus for our office during this year will be fostering effective, timely communication and support to the schools.

Our office administers the following programs:

    Title I - Basic

The purpose of Title I Basic is to provide the schools with extra resources to help improve instruction in high-poverty schools and to ensure that poor and minority children have the same opportunity as other children to meet challenging State academic standards.  Our office offers leadership and technical assistance through the responsible and effective use of federal dollars to supplement and support educational opportunities in all grades.

Title II - Improving Teacher Quality

The purpose of Title II - Improving Teacher Quality is to increase student academic achievement through strategies such as improving teacher and principal quality and increasing the number of highly qualified teachers in the classroom and highly qualified principals and assistant principals in schools.

    Title III- English Language Learners

Students who are English Language Learners are classified as Limited English Proficient (LEP) or Immigrant Children and Youth. The MDE wishes to identify major issues affecting the education of English Language learners, and to assist and support local school districts efforts to emphasize high academic standards, school accountability, professional development and parent involvement.
